Windows 10 software updates install on your device automatically (whether you like it or not), but this guide can help you retake control and decide when to install them.
You can manually check for updates from within any Office application.
The Advanced options no longer offer a drop down menu for changing the Automatic Updates setting: Windows Update) has all the options of previous Windows versions: Notify for download and notify for install, Auto download and notify for install, and Auto download and schedule the install.
The option, Never check for updates (not recommended), of previous Windows versions, can be configured by disabling the policy.
In case you run into issues with an update and want to uninstall it, you can uninstall it via one of the methods described in Uninstalling Outlook or Office updates.
When you are using an Office 365 installation of Office 2013 or Office 2016, then updates won’t be coming via Microsoft Update and you won’t be able to install updates or hotfixes manually either via their standalone installer.
